Overtime

From "Unclaimed overtime" to cash or comp time — claiming, switching compensation, caps, and the manager's cost view.

For humans

Overtime here is claimed, not punched: extra minutes first appear under “Unclaimed overtime”, and only a claim that clears approval becomes overtime pay on a payslip — or comp time to take later.

Claiming

The overtime section of the Time screen has two halves:

  • Unclaimed overtime — the system finds minutes worked past your shift (“you worked past your shift on…”), one Claim per row. The form asks for minutes (capped at what that day actually recorded), a compensation choice, and a reason.
  • My overtime requests — what you have filed, status Pending / Approved / Rejected / Cancelled. A claim still Pending can be cancelled; clicking any claim opens its panel, whose Approval chain shows which desk it is sitting on.

The policy summary beside the form (rounding, caps) comes from the overtime settings on Company ▸ Settings ▸ Timekeeping (under Policy in the settings list).

Cash, or comp time?

Two compensations: overtime pay (cash) and comp time. The rule has a direction, and the settings screen says it best: cash is always offered — an employer may choose whether to also offer comp time, but cannot choose to withhold cash. Comp time is the employee’s election, never the employer’s assignment.

A claim still Pending can Switch to cash / Switch to comp time — but know what that is underneath:

Manager: the Overtime screen

The Overtime screen is a cost view, not a to-do queue: claimant, interval, amount, month-to-date against the monthly cap, remaining headroom, and an over-cap flag. It opens on every status on purpose — the totals are computed from approved claims, so a pending-only view would hide the cost. Approving and rejecting happen in the approvals inbox, not here.

Until the money

An approved cash claim is paid by a payroll run of a SALARY stream, for a period ending on or after the day of the overtime; comp time is credited to your leave balance as soon as the claim is approved. If that day’s timesheet is later corrected and now holds less overtime, the approved claim is brought down to what the day still holds — unless it has already been paid, or the comp time it credited has already been taken — and either way you and the approvers who approved it are told.
