# Payroll

The payroll module breaks "what do we pay this month" into a few interlocking concepts.
This order is the easiest read:

1. [How pay periods work](/en/docs/payroll/periods/) — the container itself: streams, statuses, what a run does.
2. [Reading your payslip](/en/docs/payroll/payslip/) — the employee's side of it.
3. [The pool (unassigned adjustments)](/en/docs/payroll/pool/) — earnings and deductions not yet attached to a period.
4. [Running payroll](/en/docs/payroll/run/) — the admin's sequence, pre-checks to marking paid.
5. [From claim to payment](/en/docs/payroll/claims/) — one claim's four stations through the whole system.

> **One fact that runs through everything**
>
> Money is stored and computed as integer cents, and "approved" and "paid" are two
> different facts with their own statuses. Internalize those two and every screen is
> detail.
